Behind-the-scenes Blog!

Hello everyone!

Today we thought we would give you a peek behind-the-scenes of some of the work we do here at The Goodness. My name is Maisha, and I am a social media intern for The Goodness! For this past summer, I’ve been trying to do my best to let all of you know more about The Goodness and use different social media outlets to do just that. I’d like to let you know a little bit about what a social media intern does and about the awesome experience I had sharing the Internet with you all, so here goes!

In our rockin’ little city office, The Goodness minds are always rolling! The cool and cute Goodness headquarters, near the very relaxing Madison Square Park, is filled with awesome people, all of whom want to make a difference. And luckily, I got to be a part of it!

The Goodness was already on some of the major social media websites, like Facebook and Twitter, but starting in June, we became more active on the sites.  Also, we joined Flickr, Vimeo, and, of course… Tumblr! The main goal of becoming active on the social media sites was to increase awareness about The Goodness— about causes, ideas, tips that we know you care about.

TWITTER. By monitoring our twitter account (@alltothegood) through a handy little apps called Tweetdeck and Refollow, I was able to increase interaction with users, check out @ mentions, and find trending #hashtags that related to what we are all about. Being more active was a great way to meet people with similar ventures and ideas. We were able to reach out to more interested people; we may have even followed you! For this summer, our follower count increased 52% simply by staying on top of The Goodness’ account!

FACEBOOK. Initiating conversation with Facebook pages we liked also proved to be effective. I checked out top pages on Facebook, garnering tips from those, along with helpful guides. Comments, likes, and posting statuses let fans know that we’re still here! These interactions also lead to more fans, activity on the Facebook page, and other cool organizations liking our fan page! So far we’ve had a 61% increase in our fans!

EMAIL. The tough part was getting more subscribers to our daily newsletter, the heart of The Goodness. Our awesome writers provide readers with great tips about helping make a difference—for yourself and for the world. We’ve noticed that subscribers really like newsletters concerning environmental issues, as well as self-development. Well, we will keep them coming! If you like our Twitterfeed and Tumblr posts, don’t be shy to subscribe at www.the-goodness.com! Plus, one of my jobs was to make a cool booklet filled with our Top 30 Tips, which every subscriber will get for free!

TUMBLR. Along with checking out and adding to the blogging world, writing blogs about things we love, checking out stats, and thinking of ideas, we discovered Tumblr! Interacting with users and tracking interesting tags (like causes, social good, and recycle) has been a great new social networking experience. I’ve been reblogging some of great posts on Tumblr as well as adding our own blog posts. Since we’re quite new on Tumblrverse, our increase in followers has been 100%!

Overall, being a social media intern for The Goodness was, to put it plainly, amazing. Taking part in getting the word out about social good and helping the world was a rewarding experience, one in which I learned so much about the social media platform and which will definitely come to great use in the near future. Also, I’ve been learning from The Goodness tips, too!
